Argentina

Argentina is a country in southern South America with Buenos Aires as its capital. The nation has a population of about 46-million people and is the eighth-largest country in the world by land area, spanning approximately 2.8-million square kilometres. Argentina's economy is diverse, with key sectors including agriculture, livestock, manufacturing, mining and energy, and the country is a major global exporter of soybeans, beef, wheat, maize and wine. The currency is the Argentine peso, and the country operates as a federal presidential republic. Argentina holds the world's second-largest shale gas reserves and fourth-largest shale oil reserves, concentrated in the Vaca Muerta formation in Neuquén province, which has attracted significant international investment in unconventional hydrocarbon development. The country also has substantial conventional natural gas resources and has emerged as a potential LNG exporter, though infrastructure development has been constrained by economic volatility and policy uncertainty. Mining is growing in importance, with production of lithium, gold, silver and copper, particularly in the Andean regions. Argentina is a member of the G20 and Mercosur, the South American trade bloc. The country has experienced recurring economic challenges, including high inflation, currency instability and sovereign debt issues, which have periodically affected investment in large-scale energy and infrastructure projects. Argentina gained independence from Spain in 1816 and developed into one of the wealthiest nations globally in the early twentieth century before experiencing decades of political and economic turbulence.
