Vodacom South Africa has partnered with Amazon South Africa to offer customers expanded benefits through Amazon Prime, unlocking comprehensive benefits for Vodacom customers in South Africa beyond streaming in a first-of-its-kind deal.

The all-in-one membership programme provides unlimited movies and series and Amazon Originals through Prime Video; exclusive deals and discounts on thousands of items; early access to special deals and deal events; fast and free delivery in major cities; as well as free gaming and a Twitch channel subscription through Amazon Luna.

“This partnership marks another important milestone in our journey towards building a digital society through an ecosystem of innovative products and solutions,” said Vodacom South Africa consumer business director Rishaad Tayob, adding that it positions the company as a holistic digital lifestyle provider.

As part of the enhanced offering, RED Core, RED Flexi, and RED VIP customers will enjoy all the benefits of Amazon Prime, while customers who sign up for a Home Internet, Mobile Broadband or Fibre plan will be eligible for Amazon Prime from August 2026.

Tayob highlighted that the launch of Amazon Prime emerges as South African consumers continue to look for increased value in response to persistent economic pressures and the rising cost of living.

RED Flexi customers will receive a free three-month trial, while RED Core customers will receive a 12-month trial, following which, customers continuing with the subscription will be billed R59 monthly.

RED VIP, Home Internet and Fibre customers will receive free lifetime access, subject to the availability of the service and for as long as the customer remains eligible.

All Vodacom prepaid customers can sign up to Amazon Prime and pay using their airtime.

“Since launching Amazon in South Africa two years ago, we have built a store our customers love, with a great selection of local and international products backed by a reliable delivery experience. We are thrilled to offer Vodacom customers world-class shopping and entertainment benefits in a single membership through Amazon Prime,” said Amazon sub-Saharan Africa MD Robert Koen.

“Launching Amazon Prime is the next exciting milestone on our journey in the country, deepening our commitment to becoming a meaningful part of South Africans’ daily lives by offering even more convenience, savings and entertainment and our collaboration with Vodacom is a demonstration of this ambition.”

Vodacom Fintech Group and Group Partnerships CEO Mariam Cassim commented that by bringing Amazon's shopping, convenience and entertainment benefits to its customers, the value proposition offered is enhanced while the company responds to evolving customer needs and preferences.

Vodacom remains committed to partnering with like-minded brands that share its passion for delivering digital lifestyle experiences to customers.

“Through strategic collaborations with leading global partners, we are able to extend the benefits our customers enjoy beyond connectivity and into areas that enrich their everyday lives. Our partnership with Amazon is no different.”

Vodacom first introduced Prime Video in 2020 and Prime Video Mobile Edition in 2022, becoming the first mobile operator to launch Prime Video Mobile Edition in South Africa and making this Amazon benefit available to all Vodacom customers.

“Through partnerships such as this, we remain committed to ensuring our product offerings deliver value for money, helping to ease the financial pressure on our customers, while advancing our purpose of connecting everyone for a better future,” concluded Tayob.
