Talisman undertakes initial sampling ahead of Tirzzit ownership transfer
After starting the process to acquire the Tirzzit copper project in Morocco earlier this year, Ireland-based Talisman Metals has collected seven channel samples for a total length 23 m, as well as 38 trench samples that have been sent for assaying.
Talisman is conducting a first phase of fieldwork at Tirzzit consisting of mineralisation thickness and grade testing, including to determine lateral continuity, confirm historical copper and silver grades and to locate thicker intervals for channel sampling at 100 m spacing.
The initial 700 m of strike targeted a horizon one- to five meters thick from surface exhibiting malachite mineralisation at surface among the 4.6 km of mineralised horizons that have been historically identified.
Talisman CEO Tim McCutcheon says its geological team undertook a quick sampling programme to test for obvious mineralisation targets and to confirm historic drill intersections that found copper grading 3.16% over 2.5 m.
The company will start will exploration planning in earnest in the second half of the year, once the Tirzzit licences have been transferred from the seller, TSX-listed Aya Silver & Gold.
Meanwhile, the next phases of sampling will include continuing channel sampling of the basal series from west to east, from licence LE393478 toLE393507; channel sampling of the basal series within historical adits; conducting mapping of the lower limestone units to identify gossans, followed by grab sampling initially above historically successful drill holes and subsequently across untested
areas; and infill sampling of historical stream sediment coverage within previously untested watersheds.
The company will also prepare a drill programme to redrill historical short holes that have missed mineralisation and drill out open extensions of mineralisation.
