Pumping technologies for tough fluid handling challenges
Modern process industries such as abrasive mining slurries, explosive emulsions, and highly viscous industrial fluids require reliable, efficient, and safe pumping systems that offer ease of maintenance. Roto Pumps asserts that it is equipped to address these challenges through its innovative positive displacement pumping technologies.
Established in 1968, the company has a presence in eight international locations, serving over 55 countries and boasting more than 350 000 installations worldwide. Its portfolio of products includes progressive cavity pumps, twin screw pumps, downhole pumps, and customised fluid engineering solutions.
Roto Pumps explains that mining operations represent some of the most demanding pumping environments in the world, noting that handling abrasive slurries, mine water, explosive emulsions, high-solid-content media, and hypersaline fluids requires equipment specifically engineered for extreme operating conditions.
The company’s heavy-duty progressive cavity pumps have been developed specifically for the mining and explosives sectors, designed to maximise uptime while reducing operational costs. The Roto Mining Station is said to be a key innovation for mine dewatering applications, offering a complete turnkey solution engineered to simplify and optimise mine water management. The solution is customised with Roto Flex pumps engineered to deliver high-pressure pumping capabilities of up to 48 bar, enabling the transfer of abrasive and hypersaline water over long distances. The integrated solid separation arrangement helps protect downstream equipment while improving operational reliability.
The Roto Flex pump is designed for demanding slurry and abrasive media applications and features robust construction, advanced elastomer technology, and engineered drive systems to enable operators to maintain consistent flow performance even under challenging process conditions.
Roto has introduced its next-generation P Range Progressive Cavity pumps, designed with a thrust bush joint arrangement and optimised standard and 6L geometries, offering a compact and robust design.
The P Range is engineered to handle a range of fluids, from low-viscosity liquids to highly viscous products containing solids. The new platform can be employed to transfer abrasive slurries, shear-sensitive products, aggressive chemicals, sticky media, or complex industrial fluids.
Roto has also developed its innovative KWIK maintenance-in-place technology, designed to significantly reduce maintenance time and simplify servicing procedures. The technology allows for critical wear components to be serviced in-situ, without disturbing pipework or system alignment. It is particularly beneficial for industries operating continuous processes, including mining, wastewater, chemicals, oil and gas, food processing, and renewable-energy applications.
Visit Roto Pumps at the Electra Mining Africa exhibition to view its latest advances and specialised technologies such as wear compensation stators, aggressive chemical dosing pumps, vertical progressive cavity pumps, downhole progressive cavity pumps, twin screw pumps, and industry-specific engineered systems.
