Name of the Project
Pozuelos-Pastos Grandes (PPG) lithium brine project.

Location
Salta province, Argentina.

Project Owner/s
Chinese miner Ganfeng Lithium Group Co and Swiss partner Lithium Argentina.

Project Description
PPG forms part of the “Lithium Triangle” comprising Argentina, Chile and Bolivia.

The project has globally significant measured and indicated resources of 15.1-million tonnes of lithium carbon equivalent (LCE) across consolidated basins, in the Pozuelos and Pastos Grandes basins, placing PPG among one of the largest undeveloped lithium brine resources in the world.

The project integrates three projects owned by Ganfeng and Lithium Argentina into a single development platform.

The project will have a production capacity of about 150 000 t/y of LCE in three stages of 50 000 t/y of LCE each, with a 30-year project life.

The November 2025 scoping study proposes a staged development underpinned by existing site infrastructure and new process facilities. Wellfield, ponds and brine system infrastructure are largely related to the construction of these items.

Potential Job Creation
Not stated.

Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
At $18 000/t of lithium carbonate, the project has an after-tax net present value, at an 8% discount rate, of $8.1-billion, and an internal rate of return of 33%, with a payback of seven years.

Capital Expenditure
Stage 1 has an estimated initial capital cost estimated at $1.1-billion, including 16% contingency. The project will require a total capital investment of $3.3-billion over the life of the project.

Planned Start/End Date
Argentina’s Régimen de Incentivo para Grandes Inversiones application is expected during the first half of 2026.

Latest Developments
Ganfeng and Lithium Argentina are seeking a third investor, the likes of which will be chosen in the coming months.

In March this year, Ganfeng applied to include the project in Argentina's Large Investment Incentive Regime, which provides tax benefits and long-term stability for investments exceeding $200-million.

Key Contracts, Suppliers and Consultants
