Nitrogen generators for the spray-painting industry
Compressed nitrogen is set to bring about a major advance in the professional spray-painting industry. Its properties as a colourless, odourless, tasteless and invisible gas offer distinct advantages over traditional spray-painting delivery mechanisms.
"The key factor with compressed nitrogen is that it is inert, absolutely clean and devoid of moisture and contaminants," explains NitraLife MD Tom Sowry.
Compressed nitrogen allows for spray-painting at a lower pressure, reducing paint consumption, over-spraying and paint blemishes and, potentially, reducing costs and increasing productivity.
“Compressed air has been the transport medium for spray-painting since the inception of the technique. However, air has some disadvantages in that it often contains particulate matter, traces of oil and, most importantly, moisture. These three factors affect the quality of the paint finish and result in commonly occurring blemishes such as 'fish eyes' and pinholes,” Sowry says.
NitraLife has introduced its NitraSpray nitrogen generator, specifically designed for professional spray-painting as well as other industrial uses.
Nitrogen generators have been used primarily for tyre inflation in the vehicle industry. However companies would often use this source of compressed gas to spray-paint truck bodies or rims and the advantages of this method soon became evident.
The generators extract pure nitrogen from the air and have no moving parts, reducing maintenance requirements.
Used mostly in the panel-beating industry, the generators could similarly be used by industries such as automotive original equipment manufacturers, aircraft manufacturers, powder-coating businesses and manufacturers of white goods or any industry that requires large volumes of goods to be painted with a single colour.
