Construction Chemicals – part of the Chryso Southern Africa Group -  has launched a new “durable, hardwearing and fashionable” floor paint on the retail market. a.b.e.’s Product Manager: Retail, Elrene Smuts, says abecote Tough Polyurethane Paint is a top quality, single component waterborne Polyurethane (PU) floor paint for interior and exterior concrete surfaces. The new product, suitable for DIY application, complements a.b.e.’s current retail offering of abecote Tough Epoxy Paint and abecote Clear Polyurethane Paint.

“The new water-based polyurethane floor paint provides an exceptionally attractive satin finish on concrete floors. It is simple to use and can be applied to any domestic concrete surfaces such as patios, garage floors, driveways, basements, store rooms, and is also suitable for light industrial and renovation applications . Two coats - with 10% diluted abecote Tough Polyurethane Paint as primer - are sufficient to provide a durable finish,” Smuts stated.

abecote Tough Polyurethane Paint is supplied in 5 litre containers and available in eight colours: White, Black, Traffic Green, Soft Grey, Golden Yellow,  Havana Beige, Signal Red, and Sea Grey. Smuts adds: “For application, the surface must be prepared by sanding with a suitable grade of carborundum block and then vacuum cleaned afterwards to remove laitance, before applying two coats of the new paint.  The product is very easy to apply with a roller and brush. We recommend using a roller attached to a broomstick handle for the surface application, and a brush for the edges only.  Coverage is very good: between 8 to 9 square metres per litre.  DIY enthusiasts will also be happy to know that abecote Tough Polyurethane Paint also exhibits good ‘hiding’ properties.
