Industrial equipment supplier SkyJacks has noted a shift in the local market toward intelligent mechanised cleaning technologies that can help businesses improve hygiene standards while easing operational pressures.

The company explains that traditional, manual cleaning methods can be time-consuming, inconsistent, and expensive, especially in large facilities where downtime affects productivity. With unreliable utility supply, rising labour costs, and growing sustainability goals, it says that businesses, from warehouses and manufacturing plants to hospitals, retail centres, and transport facilities are opting for smarter and more efficient cleaning solutions.

According to SkyJacks MD Darryn Jacobs, South African businesses are increasingly seeking cleaning solutions that provide measurable value rather than simply fulfilling maintenance requirements.

“Industries across South Africa face pressure from multiple directions,” says Jacobs. “Unstable utilities, high labour costs, skill shortages, and increasing compliance requirements create significant challenges. Neglecting cleaning can lower operational efficiency, affect audit results, and impact the long-term value of facilities and equipment.”

In sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, and warehousing, hygiene standards are linked to safety, compliance, and productivity. Dust, spills, and poorly maintained floors can create safety risks, damage equipment, and interrupt workflows.

Intelligent cleaning systems can cover larger areas in less time, cut down on water and chemical waste, and minimise downtime.

“Today’s machines are easy to operate, have quick-change parts, and require less waste disposal, allowing a single operator to manage large cleaning tasks effectively,” says Jacobs.

The MACH range of Italian-engineered floor cleaning machines is designed for durability, efficiency, and ease of use. The range is backed by SkyJacks’ nationwide service network and includes compact scrubber-dryers for smaller spaces and larger industrial sweepers for extensive factory and warehouse floors.

“[MACH offers] longer battery life, less downtime when disposing of water, durable parts, and strong machine designs, all of which contribute to better operational efficiency. Businesses want equipment that performs consistently and reliably in demanding environments,” adds Jacobs.

The range includes the ECOsystem, DoseMatic, and FlowMASTER models, engineered to optimise water and chemical use while improving cleaning efficiency. “These technologies significantly cut cleaning time and reduce the use of cleaning solutions and water,” says Jacobs. “The machines are also eco-friendly, featuring zero-emission capabilities that support sustainable cleaning practices.”

According to Jacobs, modern cleaning machines typically offer reliable performance for three to six years, helping businesses reduce labour demands, enhance cleaning consistency, and limit operational interruptions over the long run.
