Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSAf) has achieved a record vehicle production tally for the 2026 financial year, which ended March 31.

During the 12-month period, the vehicle assembler saw a 21% year-on-year increase in production volumes for both the Isuzu D-Max bakkie and Isuzu truck range, with more than 27 400 bakkies and 3 800-plus trucks produced at the Gqeberha plant, in the Eastern Cape.

“Records are built on more than just machinery and equipment – they are built on the discipline of our people and the loyalty of our customers across the continent,” says IMSAf manufacturing and product engineering executive VP Dominic Rimmer.

“Every record-breaking vehicle that leaves our production line represents a promise kept to our customers.

“We aren't just chasing volumes, we are expanding responsibly to move the world for those who keep our economies moving.

“The success of this financial year is rooted in the collective effort, skills, and commitment of the IMSAf workforce, supported by strong systems and operational discipline,” notes Rimmer.

IMSAf is a wholly owned subsidiary of Isuzu Motors of Japan.

Isuzu has had a presence in South Africa since 1964, when the first commercial vehicles entered the market, which was followed by the introduction of light commercial vehicles in 1972.
