International industrial laser systems manufacturer Miyachi Unitek has signed an exclusive representation agreement with local manufacturing equipment, software, materials and technical support provider Zetech.
“Our strength lies in expertise, market expo- sure, access to international technological resources and a hard-earned reputation in the industry. In an attempt to branch into new markets, we felt that with Miyachi Unitek’s products we would develop a win-win solution for South African customers,” says Zetech MD Zalman Orlianski.
He reports that the company has sold its first Miyachi Unitek weld monitoring equipment to a local company that manufactures specialised welding testing stations.
“The Miyachi Unitek product range is applicable to a number of industries,” he says.
He adds that for over 50 years, Miyachi Unitek has been a pioneer in the design and manufacture of welding systems, innovative technologies and processes developed to solve difficult joining requirements, from large metal parts to submicron-positioned components.
Miyachi Unitek designs and manufactures a full range of resistance welding and reflow soldering power supplies, heads, monitors and accessories for both large-scale and fine-spot applications that require precision metals joining, lasers and laser systems for welding and marking and hermetic sealing systems, glove boxes and environmental enclosures.
Orlianski adds that Miyachi Unitek developed the world’s first microprocessor-controlled power supplies. “The company continues to lead the industry with its customised high- technology systems solutions for the diverse needs of a wide customer base,” he says.
Further, Miyachi Unitek offers a broad selec- tion of precision parts joining solutions and continues to invest engineering resources in expanding its product technology to meet speci- fic customer needs. “Our involvement with Miyachi Unitek came as a result of a customer that required specialised equipment from Miyachi,” Orlianski explains.
The Miyachi Unitek products have earned a reputation for reliability in production environments worldwide. The company is ISO 9001 certified and its equipment and systems are used to manufacture products in a number of industries and product applications, such as automotive sheet metal, electronics, sensors and controls; jet engine and aircraft repair; motor armature fusing; semiconductor and hybrid assembly and packaging; fibre communications components; thermocouples and thermostats; structural bonding; flex and ribbon cable connections; and anisotropic and heat-seal connections.
“Miyachi Unitek’s broad range of welding and marking systems are widely used in the telecommunications, aerospace, medical, auto- motive and defence industries. Its large-scale resistance welding and process monitoring equipment is used in applications ranging from sheet metal to component parts manufacturing,” says Orlianski.
Zetech has been supplying industrial equipment, software, materials and technical support to the local manufacturing industry since 1986. Orlianski reports that it has become established in the South African electronics manufacturing industry. He adds that the company’s engineers are regularly trained overseas in support of the installed equipment base to provide customers with after-sales service.
Zetech also provides systems integration services ranging from computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing software to different makes of turnkey manufacturing lines. The company’s customers include large electronic manufacturers through to small entrepreneurial manufacturers in South Africa and abroad.
“We do more than just supply equipment and materials. We welcome an opportunity to analyse customers’ requirements and develop recommendations for production processes, equipment and materials. We provide full technical support that includes installation, maintenance, training, spare parts and process support for the equipment that we supply,” says Orlianski.
As part of Zetech’s aim to diversify into new markets, the company has also become the local distributor for Chinese manufacturer of fume extraction systems and electronic drying cabinets Beijing Hanson Electronic’s products.
“The Hanson electronic drying cabinet series is specially designed to store items, parti- cularly sensitive to moisture and contamination, such as semiconductors, liquid crystals, circuit boards, detectors, filters, fine chemicals and powder material,” says Orlianski.
He adds that the drying cabinets are suitable for small spaces, are maintenance free and have no consumable parts. Further, the units can be customised to meet the customer’s needs.
