The hydration breaks during this year’s FIFA World Cup have proved controversial among players, coaches and fans. Likewise, a move by a group of scientists to discount both the ‘worst case’ and ‘best case’ climate scenarios has also proved controversial. It is positive that mitigation efforts have made the worst-case of a 3.5°C to 5.5°C rise in global temperatures by 2100 implausible. Removing the best case, however, means it is now harder to keep global warming below 2°C, let alone meet the 1.5°C Paris goal.
