US Dollar

The US Dollar is the official currency of the United States of America, designated by the ISO code USD and symbol $. It is issued by the Federal Reserve System, the central bank of the United States. The dollar is a free-floating currency and serves as the world's primary reserve currency, held by central banks and institutions globally. It is the most widely used currency in international trade, commodities pricing and foreign exchange transactions. The US Dollar is legal tender in the United States and several other jurisdictions, including Ecuador, El Salvador and Zimbabwe, which have adopted it as their official currency. It is subdivided into 100 cents. The dollar's dominance in global finance means that movements in its value have far-reaching effects on international markets, trade balances and capital flows. Many commodities, including oil, gold and other metals, are priced in US Dollars, making the currency a key benchmark for global commerce. The dollar was established by the Coinage Act of 1792, and the modern Federal Reserve System was created in 1913. The currency's strength is closely monitored as an indicator of US economic performance and global financial stability. Exchange rates between the US Dollar and other currencies, such as the South African Rand, are significant for trade, investment and inflation dynamics in emerging markets.
