Penguin Random House South Africa is a book publishing company that operates as the South African division of the global Penguin Random House publishing group. The company is headquartered in Cape Town and serves the South African market with a diverse catalogue of fiction, nonfiction, children's books and educational titles. Penguin Random House South Africa publishes both local South African authors and international titles adapted for the regional market. The publisher maintains a significant presence in the country's literary landscape, releasing works across multiple genres including investigative journalism, crime writing, literary fiction and commercial nonfiction. The company operates under the ownership of Penguin Random House, which is itself owned by the German media conglomerate Bertelsmann. Penguin Random House South Africa has published notable investigative works examining organised crime, corruption and governance issues in South Africa. The publisher's local imprint focuses on amplifying South African voices whilst also distributing international bestsellers and backlist titles. The South African operation was established following the global merger of Penguin and Random House in 2013, consolidating the two publishers' existing South African presences into a single entity.
