ActionSA rejected municipal budgets tabled in Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni in late May 2026, arguing that above-inflation tariff increases place unsustainable burdens on residents without corresponding service delivery improvements. The party's Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate Xolani Khumalo says the city's proposed 14% annual water tariff increases over three years would see a household currently paying R500 a month face a bill of approximately R740 by the 2028/29 financial year, representing a cumulative 48% increase, while the city's own report acknowledges financial instability characterised by lack of optimal collection, revenue leakages and weak liquidity. In Johannesburg, ActionSA councillor Mpumi Edward says the R97.4-billion budget recycles empty infrastructure promises while residents continue to suffer chronic water interruptions and sewer spillages; the party also strongly opposes Johannesburg mayor Dada Morero's plan to approve a R3.8-billion loan from German development bank KfW to fund City Power, warning it will entangle residents in an unaffordable 15-year agreement when the city faces over R23-billion in unauthorised, fruitless, irregular and wasteful expenditure and owes Eskom R6.8-billion.
The party has stepped up its campaign on illegal immigration and the protection of South African businesses, with ActionSA Ekurhuleni structures escalating complaints about a syndicate of private schools in Benoni allegedly exploiting parents and learners. A formal response from quality assurance body Umalusi confirmed that four of five schools operating under a single umbrella framework are either completely unaccredited or still in the accreditation process, with reports alleging matric learners face incorrect subject registrations, overcrowded classrooms lacking running water and electricity, and educators taking bribes in exchange for passing marks. ActionSA has written to the Gauteng education MEC demanding a compliance audit, investigation into the directors for fraud, immediate closure of illegal operations and relocation of all Grade 12 learners to fully registered schools. On the spaza shop sector, ActionSA says South African business owners are demanding government reserve the sector for citizens and has tabled the Spaza4Locals Reserved Sectors Bill in Parliament; the party's Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate says a full audit of every foreign-owned spaza shop will be conducted if ActionSA takes office in November 2026, with prosecution for South Africans who sold their identities to front these businesses.
ActionSA welcomed the nearly R1-billion drug seizure at the Beitbridge border post in late May 2026, attributing the success to increased funding allocations to the Border Management Authority that the party consistently fought for during budget processes, and called for continued investment in border security infrastructure, technology, personnel and intelligence capabilities. The party also welcomed the Gauteng High Court interim order on May 27, 2026 finding that livestock owners were unlawfully excluded from procuring and administering legally manufactured foot-and-mouth disease vaccines to their own livestock, and urged Agriculture Minister Dean Macpherson to cease hostile legal opposition against farming organisations and fully embrace a genuine public-private vaccination partnership. ActionSA condemned death threats made against its Mpumalanga MPL Thoko Mashiane following her decision to engage the Madlanga Commission regarding the decade-long Lily Mine tragedy that claimed three lives on February 5, 2016, with reports linked to the matter raising concerns about alleged infiltration within the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga and alleged connections between criminal syndicates involved in illegal mining and elements within law enforcement.
On June 1, 2026, ActionSA voted against the ANC-sponsored Government of National Unity candidate for chairperson of the impeachment committee established to determine whether there are grounds for removal of the sitting President, arguing that the chairperson should have been elected from opposition ranks to ensure the inquiry is demonstrably independent from those with a direct interest in the continuation of the current administration. The party has written to the Speaker of Parliament cautioning against delays to the commencement of the committee's work following the ANC's failure to meet the prescribed deadline for submission of its nominees, noting that while the President submitted his papers in the Western Cape High Court, the committee's work must proceed unimpeded. ActionSA member Lebo Keswa has argued that former Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba represents unfinished business for the city, citing his Delivering Diphetogo End of Term Report showing infrastructure investment increased from R4.5-billion in 2016/17 to R17.3-billion in 2018/19 and that the Inner-City Rejuvenation Project unlocked R32-billion in private-sector investment before his November 2019 resignation.
