Logistics and supply chain management specialist Imperial Logistics has acquired a 55% stake in transport company Interstate Bus Lines.

“We have been seeking to expand the group’s presence in the general transportation industry in South Africa and identified a passenger bus service as a fit with Imperial’s current core business activities and culture,” Imperial Logistics CEO Nico van der Westhuizen said in a statement issued on Thursday.

Interstate provides public transport services to commuters in and around Bloemfontein on behalf of the Free State provincial government. It transports 50 000 passengers a day and its buses travel 17-million kilometres a year.
