ArcelorMittal South Africa (AMSA) has appointed former Aveng CEO Hendrik ‘Kobus’ Verster to succeed Wim de Klerk, who steps down on January 31, as CEO.

Verster joined the company on January 2 as CEO designate to ensure a smooth handover and will assume the position of CEO and executive director on February 1.

He previously served as AMSA CFO and has held various other senior roles in financial management.

“In our search for a CEO, we placed a high premium on a candidate with knowledge of and experience in the steel industry. In Kobus, we believe we have found such a candidate, who will also provide much needed continuity with our strategic turnaround programme,” said AMSA chairperson Mpho Makwana.
