TSX- and NYSE-listed Taseko Mines has proposed a name change to Trekor Metals to reflect its growing business and expanded asset in North America.

The company will garner shareholder approval for the name change during its AGM on June 24.

"It is the right time for a new name that reflects the company today and where it is headed," says Taseko president and CEO Stuart McDonald.

He adds that Taseko has been on a journey for the last two decades, steadily growing its business and unlocking value in a high-quality portfolio of development assets.

"We have seized opportunities that others have overlooked and built value for shareholders and the communities where we operate. Our journey will continue as Trekor, a name that embodies our values and reflects our ambitions to continue to grow North America's copper sector," McDonald states on behalf of the Taseko board.

Taseko is a midtier copper producer located in British Columbia, Canada. It operates Gibraltar mine, the second largest openpit copper mine in Canada, and is in the planning stages for several other mines including Prosperity, Harmony, and Aley. Its newest, Florence mine, in the US, completed construction in January.
