Grindrod has announced that Kwazi Mabaso will succeed Xolani Mbambo as the JSE-listed group’s new CEO from December 1.

Mabaso comes from within Grindrod’s ranks, where he serves as the CEO of Grindrod Terminals.

Grindrod says Mabaso brings with him a wealth of expertise in overseeing large-scale projects, while also offering a global perspective, informed by deep engagement within African markets.

“He possesses extensive experience in cross-border leadership and stakeholder management and has established an exemplary track record in driving strategy,

operational effectiveness and transformation,” says the integrated logistics group in a statement.

“Kwazi has been central to the finalisation and execution of the large strategic mergers and acquisitions transactions concluded this year in line with Grindrod’s growth strategy.”

Mabaso holds a Bachelor of Science (Engineering) degree and a postgraduate diploma in Business Administration.

Prior to joining Grindrod, he spent a decade at Transnet, where he held several senior roles, which included executive management of the Richards Bay Terminals and leadership positions across the Durban Container Terminal, the manganese corridor and the north-east corridor.
