Seriti Resources

Seriti Resources is a South African coal mining company headquartered in Johannesburg, with operations concentrated in the Mpumalanga coal belt. The company is majority black-owned and was established in 2014 as part of the transformation of South Africa's mining sector. Seriti operates several collieries, including the Middelburg, New Denmark and New Vaal mines, and acquired Anglo American's South African thermal coal assets in 2018, adding the New Largo, Kriel and Khwezela collieries to its portfolio. The company produces thermal coal primarily for the domestic market, supplying Eskom's coal-fired power stations, as well as industrial and export customers. Seriti has an annual production capacity of more than 20-million tonnes of coal. The company employs several thousand people across its operations and is active in community development and environmental rehabilitation programmes. Seriti has committed to participating in South Africa's just energy transition, exploring opportunities in renewable energy and water treatment, including partnerships to address acid mine drainage. The company is unlisted and remains privately held by a consortium of black economic empowerment investors and management. Seriti's growth has positioned it as one of the largest black-owned mining companies in South Africa.
