Roelof Botha

Roelof Botha is a South African economist and politician who serves as a member of Parliament for the Democratic Alliance (DA). He holds the position of shadow minister of finance for the DA, the official opposition party in South Africa. Botha is a qualified chartered accountant and holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Orange Free State. Before entering politics, he worked as an economist and financial analyst in both the public and private sectors. He joined the DA and has been a vocal critic of government economic policy, particularly on matters of fiscal discipline, state-owned enterprise reform and public debt management. Botha frequently comments on national budget processes, tax policy and the performance of the National Treasury. His interventions in Parliament and media focus on economic growth, job creation and the sustainability of public finances. He is known for detailed analysis of government spending and revenue trends. Botha has been a member of Parliament's standing committee on finance and has participated in debates on infrastructure investment, public-private partnerships and the role of development finance institutions. His background in accounting and economics informs his approach to policy scrutiny and his advocacy for market-oriented reforms.
