Norway

Norway is a Nordic country in Northern Europe, occupying the western portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula. Its capital is Oslo. The country has a population of about 5.5-million and operates a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of government. Norway's economy is characterised by a mixed model combining free-market activity with substantial State ownership, particularly in strategic sectors such as petroleum, hydroelectric power and natural resources. The country is one of the world's leading exporters of oil and natural gas, with revenues from these sectors managed through the Government Pension Fund Global, one of the largest sovereign wealth funds globally. Norway is a major producer of hydroelectric power, which supplies nearly all of its domestic electricity needs and underpins its position as a leader in renewable energy. The country has pursued an aggressive energy transition strategy, promoting electric vehicles through tax incentives and subsidies, resulting in one of the highest per-capita adoption rates of electric vehicles worldwide. Norway is a member of the European Economic Area but not the European Union, allowing it access to the single market while retaining control over key policy areas. The krone (NOK) is the national currency, issued by Norges Bank. Norway's economy benefits from high living standards, low unemployment and significant fiscal reserves, positioning it as a model for resource-rich nations seeking sustainable development. The country gained full independence from Sweden in 1905 and has since developed into a prosperous, technologically advanced nation with a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and social welfare.
