Musina

Musina is a city in Limpopo province, South Africa, situated near the country's northern border with Zimbabwe. The city lies approximately 15 km south of the Beit Bridge border post, which serves as the primary road crossing between South Africa and Zimbabwe. Musina has a population of around 70 000 people and functions as an important gateway for regional trade and transport between South Africa and countries to the north. The city's economy is anchored by mining, particularly copper and coal extraction, alongside cross-border commerce and agriculture. Musina serves as a key logistics and transit hub on the N1 national route, which connects South Africa to the rest of the African continent via the North-South Corridor. The area experiences high volumes of freight and passenger traffic, making road safety and infrastructure maintenance significant concerns for local and national authorities. Musina's strategic location has positioned it as a focal point for regional economic integration and development initiatives in southern Africa. The city was formerly known as Messina until 2003, when it was renamed to reflect the original Venda name for the area.
