MTN

MTN is a multinational telecommunications company headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa. The company operates mobile networks and provides telecommunications services across Africa and the Middle East, serving more than 280-million subscribers in 19 countries. MTN is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and is one of Africa's largest mobile network operators by subscriber base and revenue. The company offers mobile voice, data, digital services, fintech solutions and enterprise connectivity products to retail and corporate customers. MTN holds leading market positions in several African markets, including South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana and Uganda. The group generates annual revenue exceeding R200-billion and employs tens of thousands of people across its operating companies. MTN's principal subsidiaries include MTN South Africa, MTN Nigeria, MTN Ghana and MTN Côte d'Ivoire, among others. The company was founded in 1994 as M-Cell and rebranded to MTN (Mobile Telephone Networks) in the same year, expanding rapidly across the continent through the late 1990s and 2000s to become a pan-African telecommunications leader.

MTN Group Fintech has partnered Ant International to launch a super-app platform in Nigeria next quarter, expanding its mobile money ecosystem with a mini-app platform, stronger fraud prevention and richer merchant features, which CEO Ralph Mupita says supports a more seamless, secure MoMo platform under the group's One Big Tech strategy.
