GSMA

GSMA (GSM Association) is the global trade body representing the interests of mobile network operators worldwide. The organisation serves as the unified voice of the mobile communications industry, with a membership that includes more than 750 mobile operators and over 400 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset and device makers, software companies, equipment providers and internet companies. GSMA is headquartered in London, with regional offices and representation across major markets globally. The association's mandate encompasses advocacy, industry programmes and convening activities that support the development and growth of the mobile industry. It produces authoritative research and intelligence on mobile connectivity, digital inclusion and the socioeconomic impact of mobile technology, with particular focus on emerging markets including sub-Saharan Africa. GSMA organises the annual Mobile World Congress series, the industry's flagship events held in Barcelona, Shanghai and other locations, which bring together executives, policymakers and innovators. The organisation runs initiatives addressing mobile internet adoption, network infrastructure deployment, spectrum policy, mobile money and digital identity. It also develops industry guidelines and best practices on topics ranging from network security to device certification. GSMA was established in 1987 as an association of GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) operators and has since evolved to represent the full breadth of mobile technologies, including 4G, 5G and future generations.
