Eni-controlled Vaar Energi has agreed to acquire Oslo-listed BlueNord for about $1.33-billion, forming Europe's largest independent oil and gas producer with a long-term output target of around 450 000 barrels of oil equivalent a day. Eni will remain a long-term majority shareholder in the enlarged group, while Vaar separately reported an 87% year-on-year rise in second-quarter earnings before interest and taxes to $2.24-billion.
Eni expands critical minerals and trading footprintEni has agreed to buy a 25% stake in EnergyX's Black Giant lithium project in Chile for a phased $225-million, supporting its plan to diversify supply chains and produce lithium-iron-phosphate batteries in Italy. Eni has also agreed to set up a 50:50 crude, fuels and gas trading joint venture with Mercuria, to be based in Geneva and operational from 2027, and joined ADNOC, TotalEnergies and CNPC in a $6.2-billion final investment decision on the Umm Shaif Gas Cap project in Abu Dhabi.
