The Department of Education has tasked the Independent Development Trust (IDT) with the construction of the boarding facilities for the Ntsonkhotha Senior Secondary School, in Lady Frere, Eastern Cape, over the next three years.

The R170-million contract comprises the construction of a dormitory, dining halls, kitchen and laundry room and related infrastructure to accommodate 712 learners.

“The contractor for the project, SED Trade, is expected to commence construction work in September and remain on site until completion of the project in three years,” IDT CEO Coceko Pakade said in a statement.

The project, which would deliver about 600 jobs opportunities, was one of 18 schools to be developed by the IDT in the next two years in the Eastern Cape alone.
