Name and Location
William Nicol drive upgrade project, Gauteng, South Africa.

Client
The project is jointly funded by the developer, Steyn City Development, and the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport.

Project Description
The road construction project will link William Nicol drive to the N14 freeway, expand the road’s capacity and improve mobility and safety on what is an extremely busy arterial road.

The K46 will be expanded from a single carriageway road to a dual carriageway to improve access and increase mobility to Diepsloot, Fourways and Dainfern, as well as southwards towards Randburg and the N14.

Included in the project scope is the upgrading of several interchanges, including Rose interchange; the construction of pedestrian and cycle lanes; and the installation of road safety furniture and stormwater drainage systems along the route.

The principal contractor will implement labour-intensive construction methods to install concrete kerbing, drains, gabions, stormwater outlet head walls and inlets, as well as road signs.

Value
R576-million.

Duration
The upgrade is scheduled to be completed by September 2017.
