Vodacom expands LTE presence to Lesotho
Telecommunications group Vodacom has extended its long-term evolution offering to Lesotho, starting in Maseru, as data demand in the region “booms”.
Vodacom expected significant uptake of the next-generation technology, which would be extended to other districts in the next few months, on the back of the relative scarcity of fixed-line connections and the increasing number of data users.
It was estimated that there were fewer than 10 000 fixed-line asymmetric digital subscriber line, or ADSL, connections and more than a quarter of Vodacom’s 1.3-million customers in Lesotho were actively using data.
“We can only see the trend accelerating from here,” said Vodacom Lesotho MD Ian Ferrao.
The service, which Vodacom dubbed as suitable for businesses looking to increase the speed and quality of their data connection, would be available to both prepaid and contract customers.
