JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) is confident that it will be able to assist in resolving labour issues as the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU), government Ministers and the three strike-hit platinum producers resume talks on Monday.

This followed a “successful” first government-initiated meeting on Friday with AMCU, Lonmin, Anglo American Platinum, Impala Platinum, Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant and Mineral Resources Minister Susan Shabangu.

“[Friday’s proceedings were] very positive with all parties recognising the importance of finding a mediated solution,” CCMA director Nerine Kahn said.

The parties would participate in a mediation process under the auspices of the CCMA from Monday until Wednesday in Pretoria.
