All grades of petrol will increase by 47c/ℓ on Wednesday, the Department of Energy announced on Friday.

The reef price for unleaded 93 and LRP petrol was currently standing at R12.61/ℓ, while unleaded 95 cost R12.89/ℓ.

Coastal prices currently stood at R12.35/ℓ for unleaded 93, while unleaded 95 and LRP cost R12.46/ℓ.

The price for diesel with 0.005% sulphur would rise by 49c/ℓ and the cost of diesel with 0.05% sulphur would increase by 46c/ℓ by midnight on June 2.

The high crude oil prices, US crude stockpiles falling for the second week – which suggested a rebalancing of the market – the rand depreciation against the dollar and renewed tensions in the Middle East threatening the security of supply of crude oil were the major factors in the price hikes.

The wholesale price per litre of illuminating paraffin and the price per kilogram of liquefied petroleum gas would increase 42c and R1 respectively.
