WPI Power Solutions completes the circle

WPI Power Solutions is excited to announce a plan to structure training programmes in partnership with Resolution Circle – a company owned by the University of Johannesburg but operating independently. Resolution Circle, is a technology incubator of commercial ideas for start-up business and unique in that they can take an idea from design and prototyping to the final production. Technical training is part of their offering and CEO Prof. Willem Clarke explains, “Resolution Circle is in the unique position to bridge the gap between University and Commercial Operation, by giving engineering students a platform to gain experience and skills in the workplace, focusing on the development of new technology. Our focus is mainly on the development of new technology, and our vision is not to compete, but rather to support and enable the industry”.

WPI’s work with government entities has afforded them the opportunity to give rise to a new way of thinking in terms of developing human capital and strengthening the economy. “Our strategy is to implement a programme whereby people from the communities, where the maintenance on the electrical infrastructure is to take place will go through theoretical and practical training on new skills. The idea is that key stakeholders in these areas are also involved so that when the work is complete, the trained staff will have sustained work within their community”, said Alaric Pagel, the MD of WPI Power Solutions. “We are requesting that local stakeholders such as corporate companies join us in this initiative to develop the necessary skills in their own communities and ultimately assist with the maintenance of the national grid”.

Ideologies between the two companies are aligned as this partnership can provide South Africa with technical resources and solutions to build skills in centres around the country. An initiative in line with the governments Preferential Procurement Policy Act Framework. “WPI Power Solutions already offers EWSETA accredited training to the unit standard of ORHVS, so this initiative is perfectly aligned to our vision of improving economies of scale in the communities that we serve,” announced Mr Pagel.

WPI, is a full service repair and maintenance company for all types of medium voltage to high voltage switchgear, circuit breakers and transformers. Specialized services on offer range from substation audit to final testing and commissioning and everything in- between.
