World’s first explosion-proof 5G smartphone

The IS540.1 from i.safe MOBILE is suited for highly complex industrial scenarios

A new smartphone is said to be the world's first ATEX and IECEx Zone 1/21 approved smartphone with widely supported 5G frequency bands and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.

The IS540.1 from i.safe MOBILE includes a high-performance chipset from Qualcomm Technologies, 6-inch display, 48 megapixels (MP) camera, push to talk (PTT) and push-to-talk over cellular (PoC) functionality and amplified speaker system.

The QCM6490 chipset is designed to give mobile device users robust 5G and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, advanced camera quality and multimedia capabilities. Qualcomm says its high-performance chipset includes powerful artificial intelligence and compute capabilities that can process demanding applications without compromising power efficiency.

The 48 MP main camera promises highest image quality, while the amplified loudspeaker is said to provide clear and secure communication even in noisy industrial environments. The Android 12 operating system is up-to-date and updatable, and the processor offers fast data processing for demanding requirements in the industrial environment, such as predictive maintenance, communication, and security.

The IS540.1 also features a 16-pin internal shared memory (ISM) interface, which offers connection to accessories such as the IS-TH2xx.1 barcode scanner and IS-HS2.1 audio accessories and with standards such as near field communication, or NFC, bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6.

Additional technical features of the IS540.1 include:

The mobile device also supports the 5G standard, which is used in company-internal campus networks or standalone networks. The 5G standard is said to facilitate the integration and consolidation of complex workflows, communication and networking between employees, machines, and processes. Maintenance, remote monitoring, and the evaluation of process data are seen as increasingly important in industrial environments and require fast data transmission and processing. The 5G network allows the transmission of data much faster than what was previously available on 4G networks.
