Telecommunications giant Vodacom has enhanced its connectivity coverage along select routes of Gautrain’s underground tracks with speeds in excess of 100 Mb/s

The group on Tuesday announced that its fourth-generation (4G) coverage currently deployed along the Rosebank, Sandton, Marlboro and Midrand routes had been boosted with the inclusion of 4G+.

Following the imminent enhancement of connectivity on the routes from Marlboro to OR Tambo International Airport and Marlboro to Pretoria, uninterrupted connectivity will be available across all Gautrain routes.

“Earlier this year, Vodacom enabled its high speed 4G+ service at Gautrain station platforms in Sandton, Rosebank and Park Station, in addition to the second-generation, third-generation and 4G coverage first deployed at these stations in 2015,” said Vodacom CTO Andries Delport in a statement on Tuesday.

“To provide underground coverage at these stations, Vodacom used distributed antenna systems located throughout the three stations. Each of these systems is connected through fibreoptic cable to network equipment located in Rosebank,” he explained.
