Visa appoints Southern Africa cluster MD

Financial services and payments multinational Visa has appointed Maurice Newa as Southern Africa cluster MD. He will be responsible for the development and implementation of Visa’s growth strategy in the region, the company said in a statement on April 12.

Newa will be part of the sub-Saharan Africa leadership team and will report to Visa senior VP and sub-Saharan Africa head Aida Diarra.

Prior to joining Visa, Newa worked at transportation technology company Vaya Technologies as CEO. He has more than 25 years of experience in regional and global roles in mobile telephony, mobile money and mobile insurance financial technology, digital technology solutions and blue-chip fast-moving consumer goods companies.

He holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree in economics, a post-graduate diploma in Accounting and is a Fellow of the Institute of Marketing Management. He is also an alumni of business school INSEAD, London Business School and Harvard Business School in leadership, strategy development and management.
