Twin-screw pump for hygienic applications

11th June 2019

A new twin-screw pump for handling sensitive, abrasive, and high- or low-viscosity fluids is on offer. The pump is suited for hygienic applications in the dairy, food and beverage, and personal care industries.

The quiet, almost pulse-free pump promises smooth and gentle operation, ideal for handling sensitive products.

The Alfa Laval Twin Screw Pump is a positive displacement pump. As the pump rotates, the intermeshing of the two contra-rotating screws, along with the pump housing, form volumetric chambers.

The pump meets the company’s stringent hygienic standards, simplifying maintenance and increasing process uptime.

Capable of handling both product transfer and cleaning-in-place (CIP), the pump’s low-pulse characteristics and solids-handling capabilities reduce the risk of product damage, with the aim of improving product quality.

In addition, two-in-one operation allows for the handling of process media of varying viscosities, as well as CIP fluids. This simplifies piping and pump control, cutting costs and minimising contamination risks.

The twin-screw pump’s suction performance, lift capability, and low net positive suction head required, provides installation flexibility and increases product recovery.

A cartridge seal with a front-loading, self-setting design, means that the seal can be replaced while the pump is in place. An optional seal-service kit program is also available.

The twin-screw pump features an external stainless steel finish with profiled elastomers and mechanical seals fully surrounded by the product. Designed for maximum cleanability using Food and Drug Administration-conforming materials, the pump is both European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group- and 3-A certified. An optional ATEX version can be used in hazardous zones
