The feasibility study for Gauteng’s Aerotropolis project, to be developed around OR Tambo International Airport, has been completed, says Aerotroplis project manager Jack van der Merwe.

“We are ready to set up an implementation office. This will be a physical office on site.

“We are waiting for the new mayor of Ekurhuleni, [Mzwandile Masina], to find his feet. We hope to start work in the next six months.”

Masina was elected mayor of the ANC-led council following the August 3 local government elections.

The aerotropolis will be a business hub focused on the development of industries which have customers around OR Tambo International Airport, or which have customers one flight away from the Gauteng airport.

These include fast-cycle logistics, aviation-related industries, advanced manufacturing, tourism, sports and recreation, agribusiness and professional services.
