Transnet’s Phelophepa I train has arrived in the Eastern Cape province, as it starts its yearly programme to provide primary healthcare services, including Covid-19 screening and testing.

The train, which has recently undergone its yearly maintenance programme, will be visiting several communities in the province from February 1 to April 16.

Its primary focus will be on the provision of eye and oral care, screening for HIV and Aids, psychological services and to dispense medicine for minor ailments.

The services will also include health education about the early detection of ailments such as cancer and tuberculosis.

Community members can access these services at a nominal fee.

On arrival, the train will be stationed at the Swartkops station in Port Elizabeth, before visiting other areas.
