The world’s largest container shipping group, Maersk, warned in May that it expected global seaborne container demand to grow by 2% to 4% in 2013, lower than its earlier forecast of 4% to 5%. It also reduced its 2014 forecast. In response to the weaker-than-expected demand, the group has also idled some vessels to align capacity with market circumstances.
