There is no doubt that Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis – dubbed an anti-austerity ‘rock-star’, partly because of his informal dress sense – has one of the world’s toughest jobs. Appointed in late January, the University of Essex-educated political economist has already conducted a whistle-stop tour of Europe in an effort to win support for an alternative debt plan. In the process, he has won many supporters not only for his frank exchanges with Europe’s political elite, but also for travelling economy class.
