Tools tailored to the agricultural sector

PFERD manufactures and supplies tools specifically designed for agriculture and related industries

Agriculture is a vital part of the South African economy and ensuring the smooth running and maintenance of farming equipment is essential to its success.

Farms often operate maintenance and repair workshops on site, for regular maintenance or repair of equipment and require tools that are both relevant and reliable.

PFERD manufactures and supplies a range of tools specifically designed for use on equipment and materials used in the agriculture and related industries.

The company first began producing files for the farrier industry in 1799 and its file range has expanded considerably to include tools such as chainsaw files and sharpeners.

The Chainsharp CS-X is a 2-in-1 solution for the precise and uniform manual sharpening of chainsaws. It simultaneously sharpens the chain’s saw teeth and adjusts the depth gauge, helping to reduce downtime. The lightweight and compact design allows operators to carry it along on-site, enabling on-demand sharpening. Five types of chainsaw sharpeners are available for various chain pitches and individual replacement files are also on offer.

PFERD’S range of industrial steel and inox drill bits are available from 1 mm to 13 mm. The drill bits are fully ground and are designed to produce precisely drilled holes as a result of their high concentricity and exact centering, making them ideal for manual and automated processes. Both types of drill bits include standard 0.5mm increments as well as certain 0.1mm increments for specialised applications. The steel drill bits are suitable for use on steel, cast steel, grey cast iron, annealed cast iron, bronze, brass, plastics and aluminium, while the inox drills are suited to hard materials, such as alloyed and high strength steels and stainless steel.

Abrasive belts and fibre discs with high stock removal rates also help to increase productivity. The precision triangular shaped ceramic grains reduce grinding time and equipment downtime. The self-sharpening effect of the geometric grains also help to increase tool life, lowering operational costs.

PFERD recommends using diamond cut-off wheels for the heavy-duty cutting of masonry, including concrete, clinker brick and natural stone. Diamond cutting wheels are said to offer excellent cutting performance and very long tool life, making them highly economical.

The company also offers a range of material-specific, high-performance, cutting and grinding wheels designed to work on steel, stainless steel, aluminium, cast iron and stone, as well as a range of cutting wheels for stationary applications.

Its range of wire brushes are available in different sizes, forms and filaments and are used to deburr, derust, descale, clean and remove paint.  The industrial wire brushes feature wires with high flexibility and bending fatigue strength with high stock removal rate and long tool life. For heavy-duty applications, the PFERD COMBITWIST brush design offers very aggressive brushing and the highest level of stock removal.

In addition, PFERD offers the drives designed specifically for its range of tools, including air-powered, electric and flexible shaft drives, recognised for their performance and durability.

The company highlights the role of its team of application specialists who can conduct on-site product evaluations, assess applications and advise on the optimum product and machine combination to ensure the most relevant and cost-effective solution.
