As the 2014 election draws nearer, so too do the potential social storms over South Africa’s triple curse of poverty, inequality and unemployment. These liabilities are there to be exploited by opportunists and populists alike. But in the end, only solid and citizen-focused leadership, sensible and coherent policy, and diligent implementation can see us through.
