The Airlines Association of Southern Africa (AASA) announced on Wednesday that its CEO, Wrenelle Stander, had resigned. She has accepted another post outside the aviation industry (but with strong associations with it).

She will leave AASA once she has handed the post over to her successor. The association stated that a recruitment process was under way for a new CEO, but did not indicate how long that was expected to take.

Stander only took up the position of AASA CEO during the middle of July. She replaced Chris Zweigenthal, who retired after 19 years in the post.

Stander is leaving AASA in order to become CEO of Wesgro, which is the Western Cape and Cape Town trade, investment and tourism agency. “The AASA board wishes Ms Stander every success in her new role,” stated the association in its press release.

AASA is the representative body for airlines in the Southern African Development Community and the Indian Ocean islands. It also has 38 associate members, including aircraft and engine manufacturers, airport companies, air traffic navigation service providers, fuel companies and ground handlers.
