South Africa’s key export markets need to be watched with ceaseless vigilance

Platinum group metal basket prices are dangerously down in part because of eyes being taken off changed situations in key markets. For instance, the rhodium price has suffered badly because the fibreglass industry introduced an alloy that uses only a fraction of the rhodium previously used – 5% instead of 20%.

Then, the palladium price was also brought down sharply by emerging internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle manufacturers, subject to less emission enforcement, getting away with using less palladium. To be forewarned is to be forearmed and we simply must constantly be going all out to be forewarned, which requires ceaseless market vigilance.
