Sub-Saharan African renewable energy company Serengeti Energy has appointed Anton-Louis Olivier as CEO.

He brings a long record of working across the African continent and has a wealth of experience in all aspects of independent power producer development and financing, and in hydropower specifically, ranging from procurement to construction and operations, the company says.

Olivier founded and served as CEO of the Renewable Energy Holdings (REH) group of companies, in South Africa, from 2006 to 2021 and established REH as a hydropower development business. The group grew to become a leading developer, owner and operator of small hydropower plants in South Africa, with activities also extending across Southern Africa.

REH was acquired by Serengeti Energy in 2021 and forms part of the Serengeti Energy Group.

Olivier was also the Scatec Africa hydropower Africa head in South Africa and responsible for the business development of Scatec’s sub-Saharan Africa hydropower projects. He also serves as a board member of the International Hydropower Association.

He has a background in mechanical engineering and economics, as well as key competencies including leadership, entrepreneurial business development, project finance structuring and power plant asset management, all of which are aligned with the Serengeti Energy strategy.

“I am looking forward to joining Serengeti Energy, to growing and expanding its business operations, creating value for all its stakeholders and making a meaningful impact on the renewable energy and broader economic landscape in sub-Sahara Africa,” Olivier says.

Further, the board thanked Solomon Njonjo and Wilfred van den Bos for the work done in the interim as co-CEOs and wished Olivier success as he joined the group.
