Valves, steam and combustion system solutions provider Heaton Valves Africa (HVA) says the German designed and manufactured Albrecht safety quick shut-off valves are suitable for use on gas and oil fuel lines for burners in the local market.

“These valves carry all the relevant certification, which is strongly regulated in the South African market by the South African Pipeline Gas Association. These valves conform to the requirements of SANS 329,” says HVA Combustion division product manager Grant Douglas.

He adds that the existing valves are repaired and retrofitted with original- equipment manufacturer spare parts, which results in reduced material expenditure compared with new supply.

“Before delivery, each valve is subjected to an in-house and external leakage check according to Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) 3230, a pressure check according to DIN 13480-5, and a function check on a test bench.”

To guarantee uniform quality of the valves, a flow-pattern or Kv-value can be determined on the test bench according to DIN 60534-2-3.

Douglas maintains that, if the auxiliary power source fails, the safety quick shut-off valves are closed through a spring force, with closing time of less than one second, and within five seconds during control function.

Meanwhile, the company has been developing and manufacturing pneumatic and hydraulic equipment and supplying safety quick shut-off valves for nearly 60 years for plant and equipment manufacturers in the energy industry globally.

Douglas concludes that Albrecht safety quick shut-off valves have been supplied locally to petrochemicals giant Sasol, in Secunda; fermentation alcohol producer NCP Alcohols, in Durban; and dissolving wood pulp, paper and pulp producer Sappi Saiccor Mill, in Umkomaas.
