Welding and construction-related equipment supplier Renttech has concluded a turnkey project for paper and packaging group Sappi’s Ngodwana mill GoCell project.

The GoCell project comprised the establishment of a new fibre line for the manufacturing of specialised cellulose as well as upgrading the evaporator and pulp drying plant at Ngodwana, in Mpumalanga.

“Renttech supplied and managed the complete scope of plant and equipment, as well as consumable requirements to the mechanical and piping contractors, [while also providing] complete on-site supply solutions for all contractors working on the project,” Renttech South Africa projects manager Mornay Nortje said in a statement on Friday.

The company supplied, managed and maintained a tailored rental-welding package for the project and also supplied all the necessary power tools, rigging, power distribution and specialised construction equipment, as well as all personal protective equipment.

Nortje further said Renttech’s on-site presence was critical to the smooth running of the project. Renttech had equipment and consumables stores on site, along with a full back-up and maintenance team to resolve any technical difficulties.

“Our dedicated team working on the project was on site to ensure all equipment and stock was supplied on time. This was critical to reduce downtime for Sappi and, therefore, manage and decrease project costs,” he said.

Renttech South Africa MD Gerrit van Zyl added that Rentech’s skills in machine repair and experience in stock planning meant “we were able to offer a reliable one-stop turnkey service for Sappi, contributing to the successful completion of this major project”.
