Engineering Council figures from 2015 show that 70% of women who graduated with engineering degrees left the sector after starting their careers. The reason? They felt isolated in their jobs.
Given the statistics, it is evident that positive change is necessary to not only attract but retain women in the engineering sector. ITC will be hosting the CPD accredited, 7th Annual Women in Engineering Convention in November, where more than 200 women gather each year to empower and inspire each other with successes made.
This year’s edition will focus on looking at creative ways to overcoming the challenges that is hindering their success. Topics to be addressed at this conference include: engineering challenges in the 21st century and how women can contribute to the solutions, encouraging a performance and solutions driven engineering industry, how women can participate in the "infrastructure boom" to name a few.
Speaker organisations include: Denel Aviation & Denel Aero structures, Ironveld, SKA South Africa, Eskom, etc. The 3-day break away conference is structured and packaged to enable women to gain knowledge within specialised engineering fields but also have the opportunity to engage with fellow engineers.
