Real-time vehicle filter monitoring

29th November 2019

Information on the status of vehicles is crucial for fleet operators of agricultural machines, construction machines and heavy duty commercial vehicles, to ensure optimum maintenance and the smooth operation of vehicles.

Operators have previously had to rely on experience or fixed intervals to determine the right time to service vehicle filters. A software solution that includes sensors, is now available for the monitoring of a vehicle’s filter status.

Proactive Monitoring

The proactive monitoring solution offers a number of potential advantages over reactive measures. Until now fleet operators have had to determine filter status by visual inspection, which could lead to inaccurate assessments or fixed service intervals. The new solution allows operators to view the status of the fleet at any time and helps to match maintenance plans to the machine schedule, potentially reducing unplanned downtimes and the risk of exceeding the service life of a vehicle. This has a potentially positive effect on the efficiency of the vehicles and aims to reduce total operating costs.

Everything at a Glance

Various sensors monitor the load status of air and cabin air filters, oil, hydraulic oil and transmission oil filters as well as fuel pre-filters and main filters. The status of the engine oil, hydraulic oil and fuel can also be monitored. The measured data is transferred from the vehicle to the original-equipment manufacturer (OEM) cloud where it is anonymised and then transferred to the MANN+HUMMEL cloud. Algorithms analyse the data of the individual sensors and determine key figures for predictive maintenance. This information is prepared and returned digitally to the OEM which makes the information available to end-users, fleet operators and users in the telematics system or by means of an application.
