Project Description
Ras Laffan will raise Qatar’s overall petrochemical production capacity to almost 14-million tons a year. The 176 ha petrochemical project will include the biggest ethane cracker in the Middle East and one of the largest in the world.

The facility will have a capacity of 2.1-million tons a year of ethylene and will also include two high-density polyethylene derivative units with a total capacity of 1.7-million tons a year.

Ras Laffan Petrochemicals secured $4.4-billion in October 2023 to finance the project.

Planned Start/End Date
CPChem and QatarEnergy reached a positive final investment decision on the project in January 2023. The startup of the facility is expected in late 2026.
