South Africans have become somewhat accustomed to the fact that their currency is among the most volatile globally. For that reason, many citizens keep close tabs on the dollar:rand exchange rate, in particular. When it weakens, the mood darkens; when it strengthens, South Africans eagerly await some relief at the petrol pump. There are periods, though, when the volatility is as stomach churning as a ride on a roller coaster. Sadly, we have once again entered such a phase, which is unlikely to turn out to be a joy ride!
